COMPOSITE FILLINGS

A composite (tooth colored) filling repairs teeth that are affected by decay, cracks, fractures, spacing between teeth, and worn teeth. The affected portion of the tooth is removed and then rebuilt with a composite filling. Composite fillings are the most widely used today. Composite fillings are tooth colored, and the doctor will pick a shade to match the color of existing teeth. They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. After the tooth is numb, Dr. Farrey will remove decay all existing decay. Next, the area where affected portion of the tooth was will be thoroughly cleaned. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied to help protect the tooth from sensitivity and irritation of the nerve. The filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.

Your tooth may have sensitivity to hot and cold after the filling is placed. Often, it takes a little time for the tooth to get acclimated to the new filling.

You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings. Taking care of your fillings will help them last longer!
